Abstract | The purpose of the booklet is to provide overall background information on the Vocational Exemplary Projects, as well as an abstract of the activities being undertaken in each individual project. An opening section discusses the background for the initiation of projects under the provisions of Part D, Section 142 (C) of the Vocational Education Amendments of 1968. A trend is noted toward the development of a comprehensive educational program focused on careers, incorporating many components which have emerged from the experience gained in the nationwide network of Vocational Exemplary Projects. The major part of the document, 133 pages, consists of abstracts of individual projects in a standardized format, arranged in alphabetical order by the States in which the projects are located, with the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico at the end. Abstracts list the title of the project and project number, director, applicant organization, estimated total Federal funds, duration, and a description of the program divided into the categories of administrative structure, program design, program components (subdivided into occupational orientation, cooperative education, intensive job entry skill training, occupational guidance, counseling, and placement), and unique features.
