Abstract | The second of five documents developed as an outgrowth of funded programs for career education in Kentucky, the booklet offers practical help in implementing career education into a school system. It deals with the broader concepts permeating career education on a nationwide level and those having grown out of the practical experience of developing new State programs. As primary change agents, administrators can set up pilot projects, establish good public relations, analyze the present system and channel responsibilities in the implementation process. The roles of the superintendent, the supervisor, the principal, the guidance counselor, and the teacher are clearly defined. Community resources lie in four basic areas: (1) the home, (2) business and labor, (3) elected officials and public agencies, and (4) school personnel. Steps in utilizing these resources are enumerated and personnel development discussed. Strategies for curriculum development include the following approaches: (1) the career implications of the subject matter, (2) isolated activities approach, (3) unit approach, and (4) integrated activities. Two sample approaches to career education curriculum unit writing and a project evaluation conclude the document. (MW) |
