Abstract | The third of six instructional blocks in automotive mechanics, the lessons and supportive information in the document provide a guide for teachers in planning an instructional program in automotive electricity at the secondary and post secondary level. The material, as organized, is a suggested sequence of instruction within each block. Each lesson is stated in terms of a specific teaching objective, teaching aids, references, and an outline of information. Upon successful completion of the 40 lessons in the block of work, students will be able to: (1) define the basic principles necessary to develop a working knowledge of electricity and magnetism and their uses; (2) describe basically the principles, types of circuits, symbols, and devices that are somewhat unique to vehicle systems; (3) develop skills such as measuring; (4) define the principle of specific gravity and describe the construction and functioning of the storage battery; and (5) analyze the performance and condition of the storage battery and apply techniques of proper maintenance. Included with the course outline are transparency masters and a reference guide listing related books, texts, and other publications. (MW) |
