AbstractThis conceptual framework for the development and implementation of a career development continuum, K-14, in the State of Hawaii is comprised of three parts: (1) a rationale of underlying assumptions and principles; (2) a theoretical conceptualization of a career development continuum; and (3) a conceptualization of goals and objectives of career development. Taken together these three components comprise a conceptual framework for development of implementing curriculum guides. The rationale covers assumptions about learners, about the nature of career development, and about effective interventions to achieve career development, followed by general assumptions about the environment. The conceptualization encompasses three major components of career development: (1) the four areas of individual growth and development (self-realization, social relationships, civic responsibility, and economic efficiency); (2) the four aspects of the environment in which growth occurs (home, school, work/leisure, and community); and (3) the three dimensions of the sequence of experiences implementing career development (awareness, exploration, and preparation-placement). The four goals (self-realization, social relationships, civic responsibility, and economic efficiency) are summarized in table form with end-goals and learner objectives by grade level. Included with the document is a pamphlet, Career Development Continuum K-14, which is a brief summary of the program. (Author/BP)
