| Abstract | Papers presented at a conference on the future of community colleges are presented. The papers are as follows: "Pluralism, Diversity and the Needed Revolution in Assessment" by Virginia B. Smith; "In Reply to the Pessimist" by Edward T. O'Donnell; "The Now College at the Crossroads" by Harold Shively; "What Is the Future of Community Colleges?" by Joseph Cosand; "Changing Social Forces and Higher Education" by General James Gavin; and "From Class to Mass Education: The People's Republic of China and the U.S.A." by William M. Birenbaum. In addition, the minutes of eight forums held are provided. The topics discussed in the forums were: I. Politics, the Legislative Process and the Community College; II. Money Stretching: Managing the Dollar; III. New Directions for New Students Coming Through the Open Door; IV. The Future of the Private and Proprietary Colleges; V.
