AbstractThe work-study program at Monterey Peninsula College was evaluated through questionnaires distributed to students in the program and to their supervisors. In particular, the issues involved in work-study education as related to disadvantaged students were examined. Analysis of the questionnaire data revealed that the work-study students felt that they were gaining skills and were learning. They expressed the need for more training and opportunity to learn, and felt that supervision was important to their working experience. The need for more information and counseling from the Placement Office was also indicated by the students. Supervisors felt that they were providing training and that the students had good attitudes and work habits. The major problems as seen by the supervisors were the students' attendance and punctuality. Some supervisors felt that they should offer better training and counseling and that they needed more information on the students and on the work-study procedures. Most employers felt that the program was providing a learning experience for the students as well as financial aid and that it was aiding the employer by supplying manpower. Some supervisors felt the students were not properly motivated and indicated problems existed with hours and allocations of work-study students. (Copies of the Student Questionnaire and Supervisor's Questionnaire are provided.) (DB)
