Abstract | The training manual is designed to train naval personnel in the professional aspects of their rating as Data Processing (DP) Technician and is a direct help to meeting the occupational qualifications for advancement to Data Processing Technician Third Class and Data Processing Technician Second Class. Personnel of the Data Processing Technician rating operate many types of automatic data processing (ADP) equipment to provide accounting and statistical services for the Navy. The DP rating is a general rating and does not include service ratings. Areas of specialization within the rating are identified by Navy Enlisted Classification Codes. The introductory chapter of the manual gives information on the enlisted rating structure and procedures for advancement; the remaining 12 chapters deal with the technical subject matter of the DP rating: automatic data processing, card punches and verifiers, card sorters, functional wiring principles, interpreters, automatic punches, collaters, accounting machines, electronic data processing, operation and control of EDP equipment, storage concepts, and programing and languages.
