Abstract | The book is intended for college seniors and graduate students seeking an understanding of adult education and for practitioners who are conducting some aspect of an adult program. Its focus is on education for home and family life, one of the important objectives of adult education. Part One introduces the nature of adult education, giving particular emphasis to understanding the needs and interests of the audience with whom the educator works. Basic principles of successful program planning are developed in Part Two, followed by the suggested adaptations for specific target audiences, such as low-income families, parents, women, and senior citizens, in Part Three. A major factor in successful programs is the involvement of the participants; many of the ways to achieve this involvement are presented in Part Four. Special emphasis is on developing in the adult educator an understanding of adult psychology, community organization and group behavior. (Author/AJ) |
