Abstract | The symposium was called by the State of Illinois Advisory Council on Vocational Education, a broadly based entity representing both education and consumers of education from a cross section of the State. Its major aims were: (1) to define the major problems and opportunities that will challenge the State of Illinois over the next 10-15 years, (2) to clarify the State's purposes and objectives that must inspire and direct the meeting of such great challenges, and (3) to develop a framework of concepts and principles on which policies and decisions can be soundly based. Over 200 persons contributed to the report which includes addresses given by: Richard B. Ogilvie, Arthur A. Fletcher, John D. Filiatreau, Edward J. Schuett, John R. Miles, Marvin J. Feldman, Robert M. Worthington, and Martin Hamburger. Dominant themes of the talks included (1) the prediction and control of the occupational structure, (2) the rapidly changing job market, (3) problems of unemployment, (4) the changing work ethic, and (5) the image of vocational education. Concluding the report are interviews with conference participants. (MW) |
