Abstract | This report attempts to measure the first year effects of a local television series designed to increase reading readiness. Kindergarten children enrolled in the Lake Central Schools were subjects for testing the effectiveness of the TV readiness program. Other evaluation inputs included kindergarten teacher rater judgements and a survey of Lake Central School Corporation parents in the viewing area of Channel 50. Data was collected and analyzed which would yield an evaluation as to: 1) the overall effectiveness of the approach as measured by results upon kindergarten children, 2) the specific effects upon children by pupil types which included sex, socio-economic status, and I.Q., 3) the apparent quality of each of the 48 films to develop readiness skills, 4) the apparent receptivity of parents of young children in the Channel 50 viewing area to the project, and 5) the basis for needed changes and revisions so as to improve the effectiveness of the project during its development period. Rating scales, test results and a complete analysis of evaluation material are included in the appendices which comprise most of this document. (Author/CS) |
