Abstract | This monograph outlines the impact of competency-based teacher education (CBTE) on the science program for prospective elementary teachers at the University of Georgia and the conversion to a model which reflects CBTE philosophy. The introduction describes the general trend in science courses toward CBTE, starting with the establishment of a Regents Core Curriculum in 1967. There follow essays by professors in the science department that outline the development of a CBTE approach in courses for the following areas: chemistry, biology, geology, and physics. (JA) |
