Abstract | This report aims to provide Phase 1 "first-round" information and preliminary recommendations to lead toward more intensive career education planning. The report discusses: (1) possibilities for revision and expansion of career training programs to meet the needs of the 1970s and 80s, (2) the effect on the careers of the future by the increasingly rapid changes in technology and communications, (3) the projected employment growth areas for the San Francisco Bay Region and throughout the nation, and (4) the San Mateo Junior College District's position, currently and potentially, in career training, including revisions and expansion projected to insure orderly career program development. To illustrate the district's educational position, the report includes detailed comparison of the present occupational course offerings of the three colleges with projected needs through the year 1980. In conjunction with those needs, the concept of coordinated training between educational institutions and industry is discussed. Planning and development recommendations included in the report are based on the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics projections and documented observed trends of continuing change in technology and social needs.
