| Abstract | This paper describes a course conducted at Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana, during 1971-73 which was designed to fill the speech communication needs of vocationally oriented students or "technologists" preparing to work in Indiana industries. Most of the students had completed a basic speech course; thus the approach, behavioral objectives, and text materials sought to develop skills in the organization and adaptation of technical subject matter, to encourage skill in the use of verbal and visual support, and to develop comfortable physical and vocal delivery. (Covered are the tools of communication--audience adaptation and supporting material--and technical speaking--the operations presentation and the maintenance presentation.) (DS) |
