AbstractThe goal of this project was to develop and implement a program of career education in a pilot cluster of schools in Cobb County, Georgia. The approach fused aspects of vocational education, guidance, and a broad-based curriculum into a systematic and sequential effort within the elementary, middle, and secondary schools. Such an effort was designed to facilitate a comprehensive education for all students by including development of work skills and attitudes suited to an area of rapid growth in population, industry, and technology. The project by design and by nature placed special emphasis on students who were culturally, economically, or otherwise handicapped or disadvantaged. Programs at all levels, guidance programs, and job placement services are detailed in the report. Based on three years' continuous in-house evaluation and on an outside evaluating, it was concluded that career education is an operational effort in Cobb County, Georgia and that the activity-centered approach has gained widespread acceptance from students, teachers, administrators, and parents. The project staff concluded that career education promotes a community-wide feeling that education is the joint responsibility of the home, the school, and the community. Almost half of the document is comprised of the project evaluation from the Center for Occupational Education, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina. (MF)
