AbstractThis report presents three studies which investigated the two major problem areas in developing a State system of managed research in vocational education: (1) identifying persons who are interested in and competent to conduct research and development activities, and (2) identifying and placing in priority order the significant problems in the field of vocational education. Approximately 5,000 persons in Minnesota who had some professional responsibility for vocational and practical arts education were surveyed as potential resource personnel. Findings indicated that 894 persons of various competency levels were interested in ongoing in research activities. The other two studies were designed to identify research priorities in Minnesota through two statewide surveys. The first attempted to classify and rank order problem areas. The second was conducted one year later to determine whether various groups of practitioners differed with respect to their research priorities. It was found that respondents classified by educational employment and responsibility did not differ significantly but that those interested in research did have different priorities than persons without previous expressed research interests. It was concluded that a composite list of research priorities based on a large number of practitioner responses may be developed for a State. (MF)
