| Abstract | Two experiments investigated the impact of immediate knowledge of a correct response (KCR) upon learning in programed instruction. The 356 subjects completed a programed lesson on myocardial infarction taught by means of the PLATO IV computer assisted instructional system. Subjects who received KCR after responding learned significantly more than those who received no KCR or who could peek at the correct answer before responding. Neither a correction procedure, two versions of a time out procedure, nor a forced return procedure improved upon the procedure of KCR after responses. KCR after wrong answers only was slightly better than KCR after right answers only. Reviews of frames relating to incorrect answers failed to improve performance on either an immediate or a delayed criterion test. (Author/PB) |
