AbstractIn 1967, the State Education Department published "Consumer Education--Materials for an Elective Course." This material has since been introduced into more than 500 of the New York State high schools. As a result of the interest in Consumer Education in the State and Nation, the Department has begun the preparation of a series of modules--Expanded Programs of Consumer Education. Nothing touches the lives of the disadvantaged more than the constant struggle to stretch limited financial resources to meet the increasing costs of living. This module is designed in the hope that it will help the poor to make better use of their income, as well as with the expectation that those of higher income will be more understanding of the problems of their fellow citizens. The first seven modules in the series are: consumer issues and action; education and the consumer; the consumer and recreation; consumer problems of the poor; the consumer and his health dollar; beauty products and the consumer; and, the consumer and transportation. It is expected that another module will be produced in the field of The Consumer and His Tax Dollar. Each of the nine modules may be used as a discrete unit or with other units in the series. The nine modules may be presented as a semester or part of a semester course, or presented in conjunction with the original syllabus. (Author/JM)
