Abstract | The purpose of the symposium, cosponsored by the American Association of State Psychology Boards and Division 12 of the American Psychological Association, was to focus attention on interesting and innovative approaches to Continuing Education in psychology as a profession in various parts of the country. The participants were asked to focus on the unique problems posed by Continuing Education as an educational process rather than on legal, mandatory vs. voluntary, issues. Programs described represent a variety of formats, ranging from a relatively simple visiting Psychologist program to a multi-format, multi-level approach at the Center for Advanced Study and Continuing Education in Mental Health (CASCEMH) in Nashville, Tennessee. Issues covered by the various programs include target populations, sponsorships, program evaluation, and underlying assumptions about course content and format. Participants agreed that Psychology as a profession has not shown enough interest and concern with Continuing Education and that innovative approaches are clearly needed. (Author/SES) |
