Abstract | This dissertation discusses problems involved in preparing an eighth-grade American literature curriculum designed to work as part of a sequential and cumulative seventh through twelfth grade literature series. The study discusses the experience of testing the material and revising the curriculum as a result of this experiment; the experience of working with the publisher; a plan for revising one curriculum for use at another academic level; the problems of timeliness and cooperation between high school and college personnel; and a comparison of an ideal curriculum with the actual finished product. Suggestions are made about curriculum design useful to high school teachers, administrators, or college personnel. While these suggestions may be most helpful to people working in English, the conclusions are valid for other curriculum areas as well. (Author/DI) |
