Abstract | This report describes the research and organization involved for implementing a coordinated county academic-vocational program for mentally, physically, and emotionally handicapped students at the high school and post-secondary levels. An occupational survey and literature review preceded the development of a flexible academic curriculum providing basic instruction and remedial work in language arts and mathematics skills. Job orientation, vocational skills development for the occupations centering on food service and building maintenance, on-the-job training, and the services of a rehabilitation counselor are provided in this 4-year special program. Inservice training for professional staff, program evaluation, and accountability constitute major programmatic needs. The curriculum guide includes numerous unit outlines, term definitions, visual aids, program goals and objectives, and resource materials. Staff roles and responsibilities are delineated for this state funded developmental project. (AG) |
