Abstract | Three separate teacher and student books for the Project 18 course are included in this packet. The objective is to help students develop a positive attitude and to motivate them toward political participation. Teaching strategies for six sections, which run the gamut from simulation to lecture, focus on practical politics. The six sections are as follows: 1) A simulation section introducing students to politics requires them to assume the role of political actors in a real world situation; 2) a citizen's role in government activity provides students with experience in planning how to influence political decisions; 3) case studies adapted to the secondary grades present information about particular levels of state and local government; 4) lectures, discussions, and role playing activities deal with an election, voting, and campaigning; 5) multi-media materials help students examine American social structure as it influences political attitudes and behavior; and 6) flow charting activities involve students in evaluating political strategies. The Teacher's Manual provides lesson guides; the Teacher Resource Book contains student readings, suggested lectures, papers, and background readings; and the Student Resource Book includes appropriate student readings.
