Abstract | Intended for the parents (mothers) of children with behavior problems in a diagnostic intake preschool, the training manual instructs parents in methods of observing and interacting with the children. Parents are instructed in classroom observation techniques involving the collection and recording of data on rating sheets. Detailed are how to rate appropriate/inappropriate behavior each minute on the minute, and how to take 30-second samples on an individual mother or child for a 20-minute duration. Types of data gathered include mother's attention to child behavior, child's time on task, peer interaction, language sample, and specific disruptive behaviors. Objective sheets list activities to be completed by parent at each step in the training, and series of questions periodically test the parent's mastery of the data gathering and recording techniques.
