Abstract | This pilot project explored the causes of negative teacher attitudes towards vocational education and developed means for helping teachers in the elementary grades to form less biased attitudes. Curricular and instructional plans were developed by 20 teachers for the purpose of furthering vocational understandings among their students. These teachers now realize that blue-collar jobs and other work held in low esteem are essential to our society, and they are better prepared to aid their pupils in making vocational choices. Pre- and post-testing, resource persons, field trips, and self-analysis were techniques employed in developing and evaluating teachers' attitudes towards vocations as a result of a 5-week summer workshop at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. The positive response of the participants both to their workshop experiences and to the testing of self-developed materials in their classes demonstrated the effectiveness of the program .
