| Abstract | Offered here is a narrative survey of international approaches to training for social welfare. For the purposes of the survey, social welfare tasks have been defined as those which involve the improvement of social functioning and social relationships in meeting social needs at individual, group, or community levels. The study also encompasses manpower policies and provisions for social welfare tasks in all sectors of national development. Only developments of an innovating character were selected for consideration. The survey was concerned with new approaches and experiments to develop manpower for tasks at different levels, ranging from policy making, planning, administration, education and supervision, to a variety of field activities. The developments covered in the study took place principally during 1960-69. The main concerns of the study may be grouped according to: manpower policy for social welfare; organizing training procedures and resources; and realizing curriculum objectives. A chapter is devoted to each of these areas, and a concluding chapter is devoted to examining the significance of the expanding concept of social welfare and the implications of its developmental aspects against the background of the findings.
