Abstract | Selected activities, lessons, and ideas from a cross section of projects and programs used in the Glen Falls City School District are presented in this guide for K-12 teachers. The major objectives of a given unit is to help students develop an attitude of world understanding in every subject area, introducing interdisciplinary activities in social studies, English, science, physical education, business, and art classes. None of the lessons are intended to be used in a prescriptive manner, rather, they are intended as suggestions which the teacher can develop in his own way depending upon the pupils and the setting. Three major parts comprise the handbook. Part one, Sample Lessons, is arranged by grade level. Each lesson lists purposes, and suggested procedures and activities. Part two, Pages of Ideas, includes some activities in Glen Falls Programs, suggests ideas for gaining community support, gives ideas for k-12 classrooms, and provides miscellaneous approaches to world affairs. Part three, an appendix, includes a script for grade 4, a play, and art directions for a primary grade. (SJM) |
