| Abstract | Using post-secondary vocational and technical education students as the populations, the objectives of this project were to determine: (1) the ability of standardized instruments to predict the various criteria of success, (2) the relative ability of the different instruments to predict each criterion of success, and (3) which sub-set of all of the scales in the Project MINI-SCORE battery is most effective in predicting a given criterion. Instruments included in the battery were the: (1) General Aptitude Test Battery, (2) Minnesota Vocational Interest Inventory, (3) Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire, (4) Minnesota Importance Questionnaire, (5) Vocational Development Inventory, and (6) Minnesota Scholastic Aptitude Test. Multiple and zero-order correlation analyses were performed on each population, taking scores obtained from students upon application to school and correlating them with each of the 11 different criteria of vocational student success. Findings of this research included: (1) It is not possible to generalize about the relationship between an instrument and a criterion, (2) Student interests, job needs, and personality were the key factors related to the success of the students studied, and (3) There is little agreement between the specific instrument scales that are most predictive of a given criterion of success in different populations.
