Abstract | A discussion of ways to motivate English students is presented. Five questions are presented and answers given. The questions are: "Do kids really want to be bored?" Why is their background so limited?""How do we motivate students without being hams?""Why do kids have to be entertained in every class?" and "Should we drop all boring English classes?" The following points are part of the responses made to these questions. Students are often bored by a dull teacher. Most students have limited background only in the sense that they don't know everything teachers would like them to know before they appear in their classes. Being a ham is a fine idea if it helps the student to acquire a sense of the excitement involved in literature. Good education is entertaining in one sense or another most of the time. This discussion includes literature films, and the media in general. (CK) |
