Abstract | The basic purpose of this project was to determine the extent and type of change which has taken place, in the past in the developing state colleges and universities, and which is projected for the near future. The project had two phases, the first phase consisting of a questionnaire survey of American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) institutions and those eligible for membership. At each institution data were secured on (1) the success in carrying out present functions, (2) forseeable changes in these functions, (3) educational programs to be established, (4) the need for new resources to carry out proposed changes, (5) problems in fulfilling present functions if new areas develop, and (6) an analysis of specific teacher education. The second phase of the study had six objectives. These were to determine and describe (1) the general characteristics of institutional changes, (2) current institutional characteristics, (3) projected plans for development of curriculum, (4) developing forms of administrative organization, (5) current ideas for innovative programs, and (6) program changes in teacher education resulting from major institutional changes.
