Abstract | During the fiscal year covered by this report, the Council allocated $1,401,982 for the support of 32 new projects and continued or completed work on a number of others. In the area of administration and management, the Council is continuing the long-range program designed to help libraries make maximum use of available resources. Since 1968 the Council has been engaged in programs devoted to attracting and keeping young people of high ability in the library profession by providing them with sufficient rewards. Some essential first steps are being taken toward the idealized situation in which all major libraries are linked providing one universal library to serve all readers. The limited funds available to the Council for the support of library automation activities will be given to only a few of the most promising projects. The Council has been concentrating its efforts in the microform arena on consulting services to libraries and related institutions and on the development of microform catalog applications. The problems of library material preservation has been a concern of the Council since its inception. The Council's concern with college library programs and international library affairs are also discussed. The report is ended with the financial statements. (Author/NH) |
