| Abstract | This document is an annotated bibliography consisting of 34 entries dealing with research on class size; the research is directed toward finding an optimum class size which would prove favorable not only to administrative and economic concerns but also to the performance of students. Some documents concern themselves with the question of large or small classrooms in television instruction and the use of large lecturing sessions in accommodating large classes. For the most part the findings show that large classes versus small classes have little or no effect in student performance. Several documents concern themselves with the issue of class size in relation to teacher work load and collective bargaining. Of the 34 entries, 12 are annotations on journal articles. This bibliography is part of a report that was originally prepared for an ad hoc committee of the National Council of Teachers of English's standing Committee on Research. (CK) |
