| Abstract | Problems of schools in rural areas are said to be related to the problems of talent search for the gifted in these areas, and to ways for meeting their needs. If a comprehensive model of special education is used in which the major function is specified as therapy, then the term therapy must include a total community involvement, with therapy viewed as the total impact of education, formal and informal, upon the gifted child. A review is presented of various school and community efforts to provide for the gifted children in small schools and rural areas. Volunteer efforts, especially by parents, are highlighted.
