Abstract | Objectives of the official comprehensive outdoor recreation plan for the State of Mississippi are (1) to guide recreational development in Mississippi in an orderly fashion on a statewide level; (2) to survey public, semipublic, commercial, and private outdoor recreational opportunities; (3) to determine recreational needs for meeting present and future demand; (4) to develop minimum standards for recreational development; and (5) to develop a 5-year action program for acquisition and development of lands and waters. The plan has encompassed (1) examination of planning objectives, legal authority to participate in the Land and Water Conservation Fund Program, participation in the planning process, and coordination with related plans and programs and (2) description of state delineation of recreational responsibilities and special problems. Demand, supply, needs, and the program for implementation are the primary elements of the plan and are treated in detailed description with illustrations. (JH) |
