AbstractThe Oklahoma exemplary program located at Tulsa was designed to provide occupational orientation and vocational training for disadvantaged and previously unserved students from Grade 5 through 12 in a comprehensive urban school system. To evaluate the program, data were collected about the: (1) contest or goals and objectives of the program in relation to its setting, (2) inputs, or resources available and used, (3) procedures and techniques used to implement the program, and (4) outcomes of the program. For comparison purposes, control students were selected at the eighth, ninth, and tenth grade levels. Findings indicate that at the fifth and sixth grade levels the program successfully acquainted students with a wide range of occupations. At the tenth grade level the cluster skill training had a positive influence on the attitudes of the girls toward school, but there were no significant differences between the attitudes of the two groups of boys. Specific recommendations are that the program continue funding for another year and that coordination of the programs be improved at all levels. (Author/GEB)
