| Abstract | A textbook called "Persuasion" was designed to provide discovery situations and a skills program to teach students to be aware of the ways in which they are influenced by various methods of communication, both public and private. The text focuses first on the persuader and the emotions he seeks to manipulate, then on the persuader and the image he projects, and finally on the persuader and the types of arguments he uses. Each unit begins with examples of persuasive techniques in action and presents a series of inquiry questions and discovery exercises designed to allow the student to experience for himself the impact of various techniques of persuasion. At the end of each unit is a space for personal insights, observations, and comments about the material covered in the text.
