AbstractThe primary objective of this study was to describe, analyze, and compare the vocational office education programs of the six European Economic Community countries. In these programs, specific emphasis was placed on the secondary school level. Facets of programs studied included: (1) philosophy and objectives, (2) organization, administration, and supervision, (3) curriculum, (4) instructional materials, (5) standards, (6) teacher education, and (7) student recruitment and selection. Based on data gathered through structured interviews it was found that: (1) Tradition plays an important role in the educational system of these countries, (2) There has been little cooperation among the six countries in the development of a standard system of vocational education, and (3) Students are encouraged to gain a general cultural background in addition to their vocational training. Chapters of the study are as follows: (1) The Problem, (2) Review of Related Literature, (3) Procedures, (4) Belgium, (5) Federal Republic of Germany, (6) France, (7) Italy, (8) Luxembourg, (9) The Netherlands, (10) Comparison of Selected Factors, and (11) Summary, Conclusions, Recommendations.
