| Abstract | To improve efficiency in manpower policies and programs, this study explores the effects of economic growth on future manpower requirements in Canada. Projections of occupational employment as a percentage of total employment, employment per unit of output, and the level of output for each of the 12 major industries, were used to project manpower needs for each of the five economic regions of Canada. The projections are extrapolations from past trends, modified to take into account expected future developments. The occupational structure of the labor force is assumed to depend on only the industrial structure of employment and the occupational structure of each industry. Because of the simplifying assumptions, the projections are intended to provide a broad indication of future needs rather than exact predictions. (BH) |
