Abstract | This study in curriculum revision examined two problems: the possibility of using geography and history as integrating disciplines for K-12 social studies program; and, the ways a public college and school system might cooperatively bring about curriculum change. Other objectives included development of materials and implementation of the program. The methods involved the development of two models: one for interaction of the Providence Public Schools and Rhode Island College to identify the various categories involved in curriculum development together with the stages involved in the process; and, the other to develop curriculum guides and resource units from an analysis of the concept structure of the social sciences and of the broad aims set for the social studies program. Results, conclusions, and recommendations are also treated. Of the six conclusions, one stated that the program has adaptability to another school system any place in the country and could be implemented within two calendar years. (Author/DJB) |
