| Abstract | The purpose of the conference was to explore the common elements in the educational system at the secondary and post secondary levels, focusing on the changing role of the student in the system. The proceedings consist of: (1) two talks delivered at the conference: "The Student and the System," by Edgar Friedenberg, and "Demythologizing the System," by Don McCulloch and the transcripts of the discussions which followed their presentations; (2) a review of the film "High School" by John Katz; (3) summaries of the group discussions; and (4) the transcript of the panel discussion.
