Abstract	Programs in pursuit of national goals can be expected to lead to rapid growth in job openings in the skilled construction crafts during the coming decade by creating an average of nearly 300,000 job openings a year. Compared to the 68,000 people completing training for these occupations in 1966, there is a definite lack of an adequate supply of trained manpower which in turn may complicate the attainment of national objectives. This rapidly growing demand for construction manpower, coupled with a slowly increasing supply, has two principal implications for planning in vocational education. First, rapid expansion in construction means parallel expansion in a broad spectrum of needs for skilled labor. Secondly, it implies an expanding base of job opportunities for individuals in the "left out" groups in American society. An enlarged role for vocational education in the construction field would further the broad objectives of national policy, and would serve to implement the purposes of the 1968 amendments.
