| Abstract | To assist in the development of an interdisciplinary approach to an outdoor education program in the teacher preparation curriculum at Weber State College, outdoor education programs in 50 colleges and universities in the western United States were surveyed. Eighteen offered an outdoor education program, 7 utilized an outdoor teacher education program, 6 required student teachers to participate in an outdoor resident school, and 20 were planning to offer an outdoor teacher education program. Since it was concluded that Weber State College had most of the resources in leadership and natural outdoor surroundings, a proposed interdisciplinary approach to an outdoor teacher education program was formulated, submitted to a jury of experts for approval, and revised. Conclusions about outdoor education programs, materials, and research findings are presented along with recommendations relating specifically to the proposed outdoor teacher education program at Weber State College.
