AbstractThe purposes of this third report in a series of 5-year follow-up studies of a school district in San Jose, California, are (1) to compare Mexican American and other graduates and dropouts from the school years ending in 1963 and 1965 and (2) to compare the results of this study with the 2 previous studies (school years ending in 1956 and 1961). Tabular data are presented for 1963 and 1965 graduates and dropouts cross-classified by ethnicity. Comparable figures from the 1956 and 1961 studies are also presented. Most of the tables are followed by statements of the significance of the data, together with inferences drawn from the findings. A summary of findings as applied to the objectives of the study -- (1) to determine characteristics and activities of school leavers, (2) to determine differences in problems faced by school leavers of Mexican ancestry, and (3) to evaluate those aspects of the curriculum and guidance program to which the follow-up data apply -- is presented, as well as recommendations for improving curriculum and guidance.
