Abstract | A data book designed for use by high school seniors to investigate the problems and processes of nation-building in Africa south of the Sahara today has been prepared. The book consists of two parts. Part I contains descriptions of the geographic, social, economic, political, and historical features of 24 sub-Saharan African nation-states. Part II concentrates on the various aspects of the economic, political, and social structures of these and other sub-Saharan African nation-states. Maps, graphs, charts, and tables are modes employed to convey information and to assist the students in developing skills of analysis. The data included are highly selective. The book offers an ideal opportunity for the students to engage in all types of intellectual inquiry, including hypothesizing about problems or features of African national development and testing hypotheses formed by others as well as themselves.
