Abstract | The Wabash Valley Supplementary Educational Center, the organization and activities of which are described in this report, is one of several multidistrict, multifunctional supplementary centers in the state of Indiana. Unique in that a university has contracted its operation, the Center has a two-fold purpose: (1) to provide educational services which cannot be provided by the schools individually, and (2) to provide for demonstration of exemplary programs to shorten the "innovation lag." Eight western Indiana countries and 20 school corporations enrolling more than 50,000 students are involved in this cooperative effort. Projects of the Center encompass a wide range of topics (music, history, pupil personnel, measurement and evaluation, elementary language arts, program evaluation, team teaching, and programed instruction) and a variety of activities (inservice workshops, demonstration classrooms, consultant services, specialized teaching materials, equipment, exhibits, and services, for example). Each of the projects of each administrative division is described here in terms of objectives, personnel involved, and evaluation of the effectiveness and extent of contribution to teacher education and improvement. Also included is a description of the general organization and development of the Center. (Author/ES) |
