Abstract | Results are presented from a study of classroom and class laboratory space utilization at the University of Washington. The report is limited to space used for direct instruction in regularly scheduled classes in all disciplines except medicine, dentistry, and nursing; classes given during the day and evening are included. It does not include classes given in offices or locations other than classrooms or class laboratories, nor the many unscheduled hours of use of those rooms. Utilization is measured by--(1) the average number of hours per week per room, and (2) the percent of stations occupied when the room is in use. Also included is a description of the facilities inventory system utilized, which conforms to a federally established system of inventory with some additional provisions to satisfy requirements of state agencies.
