Abstract | Devoted largely to credit recommendations at the collegiate level, this 1968 guide to the evaluation of educational experiences in the armed forces (1) lists formal residential course offerings by the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and Department of Defense, and (2) describes two national testing programs, the General Educational Development (GED) testing program and the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), through which military personnel may receive a different type of appraisal of their educational achievements. Alphabetically listed exhibits under each of the armed services contain such information as present and former course titles, locations, program length, objectives, content, and specific credit recommendations. Guidelines are furnished on credit and advanced standing by examination, the use and administration of GED and CLEP tests, and the interpretation and evaluation of scores, together with actual CLEP scores (1965-66) by United States Armed Forces Institute candidates. Courses in technical specialties, administrative and clerical occupations, and modern languages are especially numerous. Subject indexes are included. (ly) |
