Abstract | Recommendations are given for introductory courses for potential and recently appointed training officers in British industry, particulary those of medium size. The course should cover a minimum period of 120 hours in an approved college; it should include sessions on the training function, assessment of training needs, formulating and implementing programs, and assessing training effectiveness. It should be at least a six weeks "sandwich" course, in two periods of two weeks, split by a period of supervised project work, and where possible it should be residential. Colleges should exercise control over selection of candidates; they should set up Advisory Committees to plan courses in cooperation with local industry; and they should institute procedures for assessing the effectiveness of their courses. The introductory course should be followed by supervised practical experience in a student's own firm, if possible, or in another firm. Consideration should be given to approved specialized courses qualifying for financial assistance from the Ministry of Labour and the Training Boards. (pt) |
