AbstractWith the closing of the Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults, a proposal is made to reinstate it and change its name to the National Center for Continuing Higher Education, to indicate an enlarged concern for all continuing education after high school. The program of the Center should include research and study, demonstration, experimentation, evaluation, professional training, consultation and program development, publication, development of national policy, and a concern for evolving institutional policies for continuing education. It is recommended that the board be broadly representative of university administration, academic disciplines, and the public, and that the principal staff complement be engaged on a short- to medium-term basis, with a limited core administrative and planning staff appointed for longer terms. Active sponsorship should be expanded, perhaps to include the American Alumni Council, or some of the learned societies. The Center should be established as an independent, non-affiliated entity and funds to support the core staff should be sought from Federal Government sources, from selected major foundations, and sponsoring organizations. Funds in support of the Center's program and the staff people who implement it should be sough" as "program grants and as stipends for persons assigned and accepted for work with the organization.
