Abstract	In 1945, the American Council on Education created the civilian Commission on Implications of Armed Forces Educational Programs to study the armed forces education of World War II and its possible effects on postwar civilian education. Those features of the wartime training and education programs which appeared to be worthy of adaptation and experimentation in peacetime civilian education have been explored. In this study, pertinent information was gathered by examining all the publications of the Commission, selected publications of the American Council on Education, and other relevant source materials. Interviews were held with the director and the assistant director of the Commission. Significant events and issues considered by the Commission were explored, and the origins and development of the Commission were reviewed. Specific aspects of its work (including merits and weaknesses of the intensive "G.I. Method," accelerated programs, program supervision and evaluation, language and area training, use of visual aids, integration of subject matter, and differences between special Army and Navy programs) were discussed in detail. Conclusions and recommendations for possible use of this study were set forth. (author/ly)
