Abstract | When the North American Conference on Adult Education met in Mexico in June 1968, with delegates from Canada, Mexico, and the United States, a gentleman's agreement was made to carry out the purposes of the group on an individual basis, as well as within the group, seeking practical steps for developing adult education throughout all the Americas. The representatives of the North American Conference changed the committee name to the Inter-American Committee on Adult Education, with headquarters for the next three years in Canada. The purposes of the new committee were agreed to include the voluntary exchange of information and of people concerned with continuing education in North and South America, the establishment of a mechanism to facilitate such exchange, the stimulation of occasional conferences on highly specialized aspects of continuing education, and advisory services for members. Association with other organizations such as UNESCO and OAS is under consideration. The next meeting of the Inter-American Committee will be held in Washington, in the winter or early spring of 1968/69. (jf) |
