Abstract | THIS REPORT REPRESENTS A SYNTHESIS OF THE CURRENT LITERATURE RELATED TO THE TOPIC OF TEACHER AND LEADER TRAINING AND RECUITMENT RATHER THAN AN ANALYSIS OF EMPIRICAL DATA. IN GENERAL, THE PERSONNEL PROBLEM IN HIGHER ADULT EDUCATION IS EXAMINED FROM THE STANDPOINT OF THE GROWTH OF THE FIELD, PERSONNEL NEEDS, THE NEED FOR TRAINING, THE AIMS OF SPECIALIST TRAINING AT THIS LEVEL, AND PRESENT PRACTICES IN TRAINING AND RECRUITMENT. IN ADDITION, THE IMPLICATIONS FOR TRAINING OF THE VARIOUS PHILOSOPHIES OF ADULT EDUCATION ARE EXAMINED AS WELL AS EXISTING PROFESSIONAL PREPARATION AND INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS. FINALLY, THERE IS A SECTION DEALING WITH CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS. WHILE THE RESULTS OF THIS REPORT ARE LARGELY HEURISTIC, IT IS BELIEVED THAT FROM SUCH BASES USEFUL INNOVATIONS IN THE PRACTICE OF HIGHER ADULT EDUCATION MAY BE DEVELOPED.
